Head First Java, 2nd Edition
by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates
Average Customer Review:
based on 259 reviews.
Customer Review: I am using this book as part of a graduate-level beginning Java course. This book is both a fun and easy read, guiding you through the fundamentals of the language at a pace you don't even realize until you're done with a chapter. I have taken Java before, so it made the book even easier for me than it would be for most newbies, bu...

CLR via C# (Pro-Developer)
by Jeffrey Richter
Average Customer Review:
based on 49 reviews.
Customer Review: If you don't know Jeffrey Richter, you should. Read his books, his blogs, his MSDN articles. This book is a sample of what you need to know to program using the CLR. Especially (it's all good) well-written are the chapters on threading. If you manage software projects- you had better understand the chapters on threading. Everyone wa...

Effective Java (2nd Edition)
by Joshua Bloch
Average Customer Review:
based on 38 reviews.
Customer Review: I was an experienced C# programmer wanting to do the switch over to Java. The "Hello World" java books were a waste of time. I can easily figure out the obvious C# --> Java "translation" on my own! But I was really looking for a book that was written at a level that would teach me useful differences quickly. This book is worth gold!

Learning PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript: A Step-By-Step Guide to Creating Dynamic Websites (Animal Guide)
by Robin Nixon
Average Customer Review:
based on 9 reviews.
Customer Review: It is rare that I am so inspired to write a review for something. This book made learning easy. I must say that without the experience of taking a Java programming class at my college (the only programming experience I have), I would have likely had to make use of additional sources to fully grasp the PHP - object oriented section of...

PHP and MySQL Web Development (4th Edition)
by Luke Welling, Laura Thomson
Average Customer Review:
based on 217 reviews.
Customer Review: This is a great book for begineers in PHP step by step go to advanced level. But It would be better if only in CSS from start. This is the age of CSS not table based. THey said in their book U can paste from the book in ur development. But all r table based, there is no reason for developer to choice table based layout in development.

C# 4.0 in a Nutshell: The Definitive Reference
by Joseph Albahari, Ben Albahari
Average Customer Review:
based on 3 reviews.
Customer Review: This book is great. It's no nonsense approach to covering the C# 4.0 language is like a breath of fresh air. It is clean, to the point, and thorough. It makes finding a topic, and learning it, or getting a refresher, a very fast process. This new version includes new chapters on parallel programming (including PLINQ), and dynamic pro...

Pro Silverlight 3 in C# (Expert's Voice in Silverlight)
by Matthew MacDonald
Average Customer Review:
based on 18 reviews.
Customer Review: I was first amazed at the XAML and C# code being laid out in color, as well as the graphics, or screen shots. I thought that was cool and more realistic to what you'd see in Visual Studio. Other similar books do not go to this much trouble to turn out such an appealing product. The book also contains 792 pages, including the index i...

Java Concurrency in Practice
by Brian Goetz, Tim Peierls, Joshua Bloch, Joseph Bowbeer, David Holmes, Doug Lea
Average Customer Review:
based on 62 reviews.
Customer Review: This is definitely the best concurrency book for Java out there. It gives you pretty much all the concepts you ever need to know about concurrency in general. From basic concurrency principles to concurrency issues that would arise in almost all concurrent programs, and finally to some optimization techniques. It also provides some ...

C++ Primer Plus (5th Edition)
by Stephen Prata
Average Customer Review:

Customer Review: I'm a veteran C programmer and have been given an assignment in C++. I thought the jump would be a piece of cake, because I had sort of looked at C++ many years ago never going much beyond Hello World, and because I had done 2 years of C# programming. It turned out that C++ is considerably more complex than I had expected and it has...

Pro C# 2008 and the .NET 3.5 Platform, Fourth Edition (Windows.Net)
by Andrew Troelsen
Average Customer Review:

Customer Review: I sometimes read peoples reviews and wonder what planet they come from. Simply put, if you're an intermediate developer in C# and you buy this book, you will save yourself a lot of stress/heartache in the future. I've read a couple of other C# at intermediate level and here's the rub: For myself, I personally try to gauge if the boo...
